This painting is all about the blessing and the curse of living with ADHD, it acts as doorway into my world.

There a lot that I love about ADHD and I’ve said many times that I honestly don’t think I’d want to change it even if I magically got the chance. It’s a wild brain but it’s my brain. With that being said theres are alot of challenges that come with ADHD too, it’s never easy living in a world that wasn’t designed for you.

When I was 20 a lot of people close to me kept telling me that I was the classic example of someone with ADHD. The more I learned, the more I related, later that year I got diagnosed by my doctor.

It was a freeing experience to know that my brain does indeed function different. It took some of the pressure and guilt of my shoulders of not being able to consistently do so many “normal” tasks like everyone else. Like leaving on time even when I purposely planned extra time, or losing what I just had in my hand, or organizing kinda anything, or staying up to all hour of the night hyper fixated on painting but procrastinating like a MF at the same.

I do rebel from the normal in many parts of life, but knowing some of things I struggle wasn’t just a lack of trying but a different program running through my brain allowed me to hold more grace for myself and how I plan my days.

My adhd plays a role in some of my favourite parts of myself. My creativity, the way I handle chaos, the way I want to try a million and one things, how I can teach myself those million and one things, the joy I find in so many little things, the list gets pretty long. Yeah sometimes my brain malfunctions but when it works it works really nice. The more you know your brain the more you can build a life that ACTUALLY works for you not one that “should”.
